How to Remove Wax from Carpet, Ames, IA
If you’ve spilled candle wax on your carpet there’s no need to worry. You can save your carpet with these four simple steps:
1. Scrape up any excess wax with a dull knife or other scraping tool.
2. Lay paper towels or a brown paper bag on the carpet over the wax.
3. Iron over the paper with a hot clothes iron. Make sure it’s set on high with no steam.
This may take time but you will see the wax melt and absorb into the paper (and out of the carpet).
As you hold the iron over the spot, slide the paper bag out from under the iron or move the paper towels a little after each time you iron. This keeps the wax melting into clean, absorbent paper and keeps it off the carpet.
4. Use a general carpet spotter. Spray the carpet lightly with the spotter and lay a clean, white towel over it. Next, lay your iron over the area to lift any remaining debris. When finished, you may want to rinse the area with water to remove any soapy residue from the spotter, which can make the carpet sticky and attract dirt. Just apply water to the area and absorb it with a clean, white towel.
